Course overview

These one week qualifications have been developed to provide a broad based introduction to the practices and processes within welding.

Entry requirements

Learners must be at least 16 years old. There are no formal entry requirements for these qualifications. However, learners must have the potential to achieve all aspects of the qualification. In particular, learners should be able to demonstrate that they have the minimum levels of literacy and numeracy required to comply with the health and safety aspects of the scheme, the completion of the learning outcomes, and the assessments.


What do these qualifications cover?

These qualifications are comprised of one mandatory unit, which provides learners with the underpinning knowledge and introductory practical skills of the chosen process from the options shown in the icons below:


• Underpinning Theory (L1) – eLearning modules on metallurgy, equipment setup, technique and  quality-control

• Technique Development – in virtual environment via simulator

• Hands-On Skills Building – guided practical exercises, supervised in welding bays (mild steel, 5 joint types)

• Certificate Of Completion – subject to tutor sign-off
